The first few weeks of May come with much anticipation in my house because the strawberries are ripe for pickin'. Going to pick fruit at our favorite local farm has become a family tradition in our house. We go to The Fruit and Berry Patch in Halls, TN just north of Knoxville. It takes about 20 minutes for us to get there from West Knoxville. I'm especially looking forward to this year because I missed going with Jason and the boys last year due to Hannah's arrival. I just called the owner and he said that they picked a couple hundred pounds of strawberries on Sunday! Wow! All I want is about 10 pounds. We love to go early on Saturday mornings eating breakfast in the car on the way there (just a little breakfast because we'll be snacking on strawberries as we pick). This year's crop is estimated to last only for about three weeks. So we've got it on the calendar to go Saturday May 13. We'll post pictures showing our baskets full of goodies later.
