This week's science lessons were all about insects so naturally I decided to take the kids to Ijams Nature Center to hunt some out. This sounded great during my homeschool planning days back in July but was not so great today. What was I thinking? Me hunting for bugs with the boys? And Hannah? So we headed out this morning (cheerfully I must add) and walked some of the paved trails because of the stroller and saw hardly anything! No birds even to tie in with last week's science lessons. The most place we saw insects was in the Greenhouse. This actually creeped ME out! Mostly from the flying insects above my head and my kids heads. Jason would have loved it! He actually commented this morning before heading out to work that he wanted to go with us today. At that point I still was in a fog about the creepiness of looking for bugs. But overall it was a beautiful place none the less even though our backyard has more viewable wildlife. Just this afternoon, we have been able to watch our family of chipmunks eat birdseed just 4 ft from our playroom door. We've seen chickadees, cardinals, bluejays, finches, and squirrels on our bird feeder in our backyard. At least the Nature Center was free.
