One of my ongoing prayers has been that God would place a love for reading in Andrew's little heart. After teaching him to read this year, which is an accomplishment that I will always treasure, I strongly desired to see him have a great love for it. I want him to desire to read over watching television. My hope is that one day his favorite book to read would be the Bible and it would challenge, correct, and direct his soul. After arriving home from Charleston last night, all 3 children ran to the playroom and started READING at 9:30pm! It was amazing!
Andrew's favorite attraction that we saw on vacation was touring the USS Yorktown aircraft carrier. I'll post pictures soon but today is cleaning and laundry day. I call it recovery day. Well to my surprise this morning, he came running to me to let me know that he finished reading one of his library books. It was one that he found 2 weeks ago in the big kids (juvenile) section called Aircraft Carriers. I assumed he was looking at the pictures and reading some of the words but he told me that he finished reading the entire chapter book this morning. After quizzing him on it, I realized that he read the whole thing. This is a book that is many grade levels above him! I am so proud. He is too. He received many hugs and kisses and screams of joy from Ethan as we celebrated this morning. Then I said, "I'm so proud of you for reading your first chapter book." Andrew quickly corrected me and said, "No it's not, I read Frog and Toad last week and that's a chapter book." Wow! Three cheers for my Sing Spell Read and Write language arts curriculum. It was well worth the cost.
I firmly believe that a love for the Bible is quickly approaching and that will be another answered prayer from our loving and merciful Jesus Christ.
