Andrew's 1st day of 1st Grade

Monday was Andrew's first day of 1st grade. We had a good day not filled with too many interruptions from the younger siblings and we learned a lot! They loved the special breakfast of cinnamon rolls and bacon, a treat in our house. But the hardest part was keeping them out of the playroom until school started. Jason and I had put streamers up, redecorated their bulletin boards and placed three little presents on the school table by their chairs filled with new school supplies. You'd have thought it was Christmas morning by the anticipation around the house, which is exactly what we were hoping for. Hannah was the funniest, she thought a new bottle of glue hung the moon by the way she squealed. I tell ya, it's all in the presentation. Big gift bags stuffed with tissue paper and a playroom decorated like a party just thrilled them to death. The item that the boys loved the most was a new package of green camoflage pencils that had their names on it. I found them at Kmart. Here's Andrew showing his off.

This year our number of subjects taught have expanded to 7: Bible, Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, History and Art. Whew! I'm going to be a busy mom this year, but we have a lot of fun field trips and science experiments planned. So we are looking forward to school days. I do miss the freedom of summer vacation but am already enjoying the calmness of being back in to a routine and so are the kids. We just finished our third day today and have already had a small field trip for science, a nature hunt. I'll post pictures of that soon.
