Memorial Day 2012

Andrew was able to participate in his first Veterans' Day flag placement with his Boy Scout troop. Knoxville has three Veterans' Cemeteries. At 8:30am Saturday morning, we met with hundreds of other people: scouts, soldiers, and others to honor our Veterans. With a ruler and screw driver, Andrew learned how to place the flags a foot out from the tombstone and drill the hole to place the flag. At first, we felt that it would take us hours to finish but the efficiency of the other Scout troops and volunteers were amazing. I really only thought Andrew completed three before the whole cemetery was done. It was a sobering and educational event and perfect for Andrew to do since his love of the stories of wars is still strong.
