Cabin Fever

Too many cold and rainy days around here are making my boys restless. They are tired of shopping at all the local home stores as my Christmas money burns a hole in my pocket. So I'm looking for something fun and free or cheap. Any suggestions on activities to do with a 4 and 3 year old boy with an 8 month old baby girl in tow?

FYI... For all you Knoxvillians, I found that the city of Knoxville website (http://www.ci.knoxville.tn.us) is loaded with lots of good info. Check out the Special Event calendar on the left sidebar. Just click on the day in question and it will list concerts and events happening at all the local venues like the Civic Coliseum, Thompson-Boling Arena, Laurel Theater, Black Box Theater, Ijams Nature Center, Knoxville Museum of Art and more.

Here are some upcoming Knoxville events that I've tracked down.

1. Knox County's Imagination Library Birthday Celebration on Saturday January 14 from 10-3 at Barnes& Noble Booksellers, Waldenbooks, Books a Million, Cedar Springs Christian Stores, and Christian Book Warehouse. It's a free event with celebrity readers, characters, birthday cake and free t-shirts.

2. For a great Daddy date night with boys: Saturday night January 14 at 8pm, US Hot Rod Monster Jam at the Thompson Boling Arena. Tickets cost $22.00 for adults and $5.00 for kids. It's much cheaper than seeing the Monster Truck Tour with Bigfoot Jan. 7.

3. The Knox County Library is hosting Gene Cordova who's a ventriloquist for "Adventures in Reading." The posters at the Cedar Bluff library looked like it would be fun for preschoolers. He's going to be at the Cedar Bluff library Thursday, Jan. 19 at 3:30.

Any others that you know about? Let me know.

There is a recreation center near me in south Knox that has a great indoor pool. What's so great about it is that half of this large pool is only 2 ft. deep, so our little guys can "swim" and touch the bottom the whole time. There are bathrooms and a shower by the pool... One CCK mom brought soap and just washed the kids after the swim. There is a small cost. 573-3575 It's not usually busy at all!! Several CCK families have used it!

The Women's Basketball Hall of Fame is offering free admission to the museum and ball courts on Saturday Jan. 14.

(I also like taking my kids to the pool Des is talking about.)
