This year, I decided that we'd do something new for St. Patrick's Day. Growing up, it was a holiday that I knew nothing about. Really that kids were mean and would pinch you if you didn't wear green that day and sometimes even if you did. I never knew who St. Patrick was and really didn't care. I only knew that people drank green beer and celebrated in strange ways.
So this year I made a "clover patch" on the floor of our playroom. It was filled with three and four clover construction paper cutouts. We then sent the kids on a 4 leaf clover hunt. As soon as they found a four leaf clover, they were rewarded with a pot of gold. I had purchased small black pots from Party City and filled them with chocolate coins. They had a blast!
All the while, Jason and I were teaching them about St. Patrick. So if you ask them who he was, they should be able to explain that he was a missionary who traveled to Ireland to share the gospel there. Then Jason and I taught them what the gospel was, you know, again for the millionth time. Why? Because it can never be taught enough that Jesus died on the cross for our sins! What amazing grace! We even pulled out the globe and pointed to Ireland for them to make it seem more realistic.
So what was bittersweet about the day? Well, Hannah ate too many chocolates. We woke up at 1 am to a little girl vomiting in her bed (just the chocolate). Jason gave her a bath, I cleaned up the mess, made up her bed, blew her hair dry, and she was dead asleep within 30 minutes. And today she's just fine.
