This morning, Andrew was scheduled for a quick appointment at the dentist's office to get a crown put back on after it came off a few weeks ago. I should always remember that appointments often turn to from quick ones to hours long and costs go from very little to very big in the blink of an eye, especially when you don't have dental insurance.
What happened? I waited too long to get the crown put back on. The tooth that had had a root canal done on it had become infected and needed to be pulled. PULLED! I felt like crying just for Andrew. I was given to joyous task of telling him what was going to happen. He was so brave. We even talked about how much money he'd receive tomorrow morning for the tooth. He thought $2.00 was a fair amount but I told him he'd get more for it. Then Andrew told me that he thought $4.00 was too much. If it had been me I would be asking my mom for a fifty. He was a trooper! Dr. Mysinger told me that Andrew never complained and didn't even flinch when he received the numbing shot. That's probably better than most grown men! The tooth was loose anyway and normally would have come out around his 9th birthday. You could even see the adult tooth on the x-ray all ready to come out. So now he has a little bridge to hold the spot open for his new tooth to come in. And he's also been banned from all gum, tootsie rolls, and gummy chewy foods until the new tooth comes in and the bridge comes out.
The whole procedure was done in the office this morning while I was in the lobby watching the other 3 kids. This afternoon, Andrew's recovering. He has been given free reign to do whatever he desires. So he's watched WWII videos on You Tube, eaten some mashed potatoes and is waiting for his mouth to wake up so that we can go get an Icee for him to drink, without the straw of course. We're waiting for his PX to get ready and hopefully that will help with the pain. So please pray for a quick recovery for him. We covet your prayers.
Note to self: Get a sitter next time.
