Our good friends the Smiths hosted our "Fall Fun Day" party. We enjoyed 3 1/2 hours of nonstop controlled chaos. We ate lunch together first. Then we started our scavenger hunt for leaves we had to know and name from a list that was as much a science lesson for me as it was the kids. Wish you could have seen the looks on the neighbors faces as 29 kids and moms with shoe boxes are scavenging the trees trying to find Magnolias, Oaks, Japanese Maples, Spruce, and many other leaves around the neighborhood. It was classic. From there we headed over to an open lot to play a good ole game of kickball. After that came the gourd races with brooms. Andrew won even the final race which I believe really lifted his spirit.
The winners of the scavenger hunt were announced and received tons of candy. Then we ate roasted marshmallows from their backyard fire pit and headed home with hot, sticky marshmallow covered kids worn out. Even Hannah and Caleb took an afternoon nap today. They were plain tuckered out. I love days like these. They're now watching the Charlie Brown Halloween special before trotting off to an early bed. What a day! We are blessed by God more than we deserve.
Pictures were taken with my camera phone, so they aren't the clearest things in the world. Sorry about that.
Racers lining up before the whistle blew

The action. This is a funny race to watch. It just makes you want to belly laugh. Gourds are rolling every which way. Notice Hannah Claire in the pink shirt and crazy colored pants running side ways chasing her gourd.

Here come the winner, Andrew! See Hannah? She's still chasing that thing.

Andrew really was pumped, especially after getting the prize of a bag of Starbursts.

Country bumpkin Caleb who always takes his shoes off everywhere we go. Cheesy smile from a nasty boy who went straight home to the bath to get the crumpled leaves out of his diaper.

Roasting marchmallows. Yum. Yum.
