AWANA Awards

AWANA stands for Approved Workman Are Not Ashamed. It's a cross between a PE class, Bible Study and Scouts' meeting to me but it is strictly for the kids. It is typically hosted in Baptist churches on Wednesday nights throughout the school year across the US. My kids have been attending AWANA at West Park Baptist Church for 2 years now. They have memorized hundreds of Bible verses throughout that time. The kids each have a book that essentially shares the Gospel with them and has their Bible verses and stories in it. At the end of the year, they are treated with an awards ceremony and given certificates, ribbons, or trophies. It's a great time of celebration for all those Bible verses that have been placed in their hearts and minds as little nuggets of treasure.
